GO GREEN

Commitment to the Environment
Going Green . . . Staying Green

In 1997, Shenandoah Corporation built a state-of-the-art production facility in Staunton, VA. This 15,000 square foot facility is the hub of our company. At this location you will find the offices, production for all 3 distribution areas, equipment repair and the route service areas for Staunton, Harrisonburg, Lexington, Charlottesville and Culpeper. We have distribution facilities in Roanoke and Winchester to better service those markets.

GEOTHERMAL
When this facility was built, it was constructed with geothermal energy to heat and cool the offices. Geothermal energy is a renewable energy that encourages conservation of natural resources by using the heat retained in the earth.

GROUNDWATER STEWARDSHIP
Shenandoah is committed to protecting the environment. The bottled water industry accounts for less than 2/100 of 1% (0.02%) of all groundwater withdrawn in the United States. Shenandoah Water, as a member if the International Bottled Water Association (IBWA), is dedicated to responsible stewardship of all natural resources. The Association has been instrumental in encouraging states to develop comprehensive, science-based, groundwater management and sustainability practices and laws. For more information please visit IBWA at www.bottledwater.org.

RETURNABLE BOTTLES
The 3 and 5 gallon bottles that we use are designed to be used between 50-75 times before they are taken out of the production cycle. The bottles are sanitized and reused over and over again. In addition, the broken bottles are baled and sold to a recycler. The bottled water industry is considered one of the “original recyclers”.

PAPERLESS
Electronic billing and payment options are available. This saves paper, envelopes and postage.

RECYCLING
We recycle. We recycle scrap metals, cardboard boxes, pallets, paper and bottles. We do our best to find a way to recycle by-products and materials that we incorporate in our products and services. We have also implemented a recycling program for the mercury-vapor lamps used in the warehouses.

COOLERS
When a cooler needs to be retired, we disassemble the cooler and recycle as many parts as possible. The oil in the compressor is extracted and recycled. All Freon is removed and disposed of safely with a third party partner.

HUMAN RESOURCES
In 2005, we began using robotic technology in production to alleviate work-related injuries. We are probably one of the few places of employment that offers 100% health insurance to our co-workers and their families. We are committed to the health and safety of our employees.
